Distinguishing Features:
The robe is damaged in three places on the bottom left part of the statue’s reverse side. Most of the brim on the right part of the reverse side of the cloak is broken off. A part of the medallion around his waist shows signs of past repairs. A small part of the cord around his waist is broken off, just above the knot, at hip level. There are several negligible dents in the stone on the front part of the robe. App. 20 cm below the knot, there is a more noticeable hole in the robe. There are traces of binding material in a circular pattern, encompassing the back-right part of the top of the head. There is a metal protrusion at the top of the head, possibly an iron dowel used to attach a metal halo, or to affix the broken part to the rest of the head.
The marble sculpture of St Anthony of Padua, sculpted by the Baroque sculptor Francesco Robba (1698 – 1757) around 1747. The sculpture was originally made for the main altar at the Church of St Francis in Ljubljana. The altar was removed in 1911-1912, but the sculptures were placed in the new church in 1927. The sculpture depicts a male figure dressed in a Franciscan habit (long, heavy tunic with a hood, a cord around his waist and a rosary tucked to his left hip). He is standing slightly mid-step with his weight on his right leg with his left slightly bent. His head is tilted to his left. He has short curls on the side of his head and on the front. His arms are bent at the elbow with his hands placed in front of his chest. He was presumably holding something in his hands. He is wearing sandals. He is standing on a round marble plinth.
